Reporting to the VP, Talent and Communication, the Director, Employee Communications will lead communications for the CEO of IGM Financial and IG Wealth Management, the IG Wealth Management business, Human Resources (HR), and oversee all digital corporate channels, including our intranet and newsletter. The role requires a thorough understanding of business strategies across IGM, effective collaboration across teams and with business leaders, and an external focus to integrate leading best-practices.

 

The Director role is a people leader role based in Toronto, Winnipeg or Montreal in a hybrid workplace environment – with a minimum of 3 days in the office. Occasional travel is required (e.g. to the other IGM offices in Canada).

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

Communications Planning & Delivery:

 

  • Partner with the VP, Talent and Employee Communications to develop and deliver employee communications for the CEO of IGM Financial, bringing the enterprise strategy, culture and leadership story to life across IGM Financial.
  • Lead employee communications for the CEO of IG Wealth Management and the broader IG Wealth Management business, developing and executing integrated communication strategies, leadership events and executive messaging that support business priorities, drive employee understanding and engagement, and connect employees to the IG’s strategy and performance.
  • Provide communications counsel and support on key HR initiatives – including culture, leadership capabilities and change management and support Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), including managing social media and internal communications.
  • Continuously simplify processes and ways of working, leveraging AI and technology where appropriate to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort and free up capacity for work that benefits most from human insight, creativity and connection.
  • Collaborate with the Employee Communications leadership team to plan, coordinate and manage the enterprise editorial calendar, ensuring communication activities are aligned, appropriately prioritized and delivered effectively.

 

Employee Digital Channels:

 

  • Oversee optimization of employee digital channels, including weekly newsletter, intranet, leader bulletin, targeted emails and digital boards, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging that is on-brand
  • Lead the digital team to regularly analyze, measure and report on digital communication effectiveness providing actionable insights and recommendations for continuous improvement

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing and engaged team that lives our corporate values – be better, be accountable, be a team: support a growth mindset as well as ongoing career development
  • Partner with the Employee Communications leadership team to drive business impact and create a culture of growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the broader team

 

Education, Experience and Leadership Competencies:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma required, Communications/English/Public Relations or related field preferred; additional designation is an asset
  • 10+ years of experience, including 5 years at a director level leading people in an agency or large conglomerate
  • Must have experience developing and executing communication plans and workbacks, including ability to analyze, measure and report on communication effectiveness  
  • Proven experience working with C-Suite executives in communications, as well as issues and crisis management with an ability to influence and persuade across all levels of the organization
  • Superior research, writing, editing and proofreading to drive compelling content across multiple channels and platforms (digital and in-person)
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with experience in managing multiple, diverse projects and tight deadlines with autonomy, while maintaining timely, high-quality work across the team - comfortable wearing a strategic hat and also rolling up sleeves alongside the team to make big things happen
  • A proactive and innovative mindset with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively, including continuous listening and asking questions to build rapport and alignment
  • Responds well to changing priorities and circumstances, and demonstrates resilience and positivity when faced with disruptions or obstacles
  • Ability to work independently with good initiative and judgement
  • Open to continuous learning and improvement, with an eagerness to adopt and implement new communication best practices, including by leveraging technology such as AI to enhance communication approaches


Work hours may vary; some evening and weekend work may be required; Incumbent should be comfortable self-managing their time and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The expected annual base salary range for this role is $135,000-$165,000 , which is determined based on skills, knowledge and experience and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for annual short-term incentive, health and well-being benefits, retirement and savings plan, paid time off and career development.
