The Opportunity

An exciting and unique opportunity exists for a Manager to join the Product Strategy, Research & Oversight (PSRO) Team, the strategic hub for Mackenzie Investments’ product shelf. Our team’s mission is to be the engine that makes and informs the hard choices that will drive the firm's growth, ensuring our product lineup is profitable, high-quality, aligned with market opportunities and most importantly, focused on meeting the needs of investors and advisors.

As a Manager, you will be a key contributor to our Strategy & Research pillar, conducting the deep analysis that answers the question "Where should we compete and how can we win?" You will integrate insights from our Governance & Oversight pillar, which monitors the performance and health of our products, to ensure your strategic recommendations are grounded in a complete and evidence-based view of our business. This is a high-visibility role for a curious and analytical individual who wants to have a direct impact on business outcomes.

Product Strategy & Research

  • Market & Competitor Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of industry assets, flows, competitive performance, and positioning, and then communicating key findings throughout the organization.
  • Thematic Research: Lead research deep-dives on specific strategic topics (e.g., retirement income, ESG, private markets) to establish a forward-looking perspective for the firm.
  • Develop Strategic Recommendations: Create detailed business cases and investment proposals for new product ideas. Your work will provide the analytical rigor and commercial rationale required to advance concepts into the formal development pipeline.
  • Identify Differentiation: Use your analysis to identify and articulate the unique capabilities and points of differentiation for Mackenzie's products and strategies, forming the basis for our strategic positioning.
  • Create Analytical Frameworks: Create new analytical tools and frameworks to understand and evaluate the commercial viability and strategic fit of potential investment products.

Business Partner

  • Data Synthesis & Storytelling: Transform complex data and research findings into clear, compelling presentations and narratives for senior leadership.
  • Integrate Performance Insights: Synthesize findings from our product oversight function to ensure that new strategic initiatives are informed by the performance, risks, and opportunities within our current product set.
  • Provide Strategic Insight for RFPs: Serve as a subject matter expert by providing the core insights, market context, and analytics required for the completion of highly customized client Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Develop deep partner relationships within the PSRO Team and across Product Innovation & Development, Product Solutions, Sales, and Marketing to share insights, vet ideas, and support the end-to-end product lifecycle.

What you will bring

  • Education: An undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field. We particularly value candidates who demonstrate a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving, with experience integrating concepts from various fields to form a comprehensive view.
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of relevant experience in asset management, investment consulting, product research, or a strategic analysis role within financial services.
  • Quantitative & Data Expertise: You have strong, hands-on quantitative skills and a proven ability to work with large financial datasets to build models and extract meaningful insights. High proficiency in Excel is essential, and experience with data platforms like Morningstar, FactSet, and/or Bloomberg, as well as visualization tools like Tableau, is a significant asset.
  • Investment & Market Knowledge: Strong capital market knowledge combined with the ability to interpret and communicate the impacts of market trends on investment strategy. Comprehensive knowledge of investment philosophy and process is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrated persuasive writing and presentation ability, including the skill to communicate complex topics effectively to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Business Acumen: A strategic thinker with the ability to gain insight from business results and articulate the best courses of action.
  • Self-Starter: Must be a motivated, achievement-oriented self-starter with proven problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Designation: CFA designation, or significant progress towards it, is highly preferred.
  • French language skills are valued.

Values and Personal Attributes

  • You are an analytical and strategic thinker with strong intellectual rigor and attention to detail.
  • You have a natural curiosity, a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to implement ideas, not just analyze them.
  • You are a team-oriented and approachable colleague with the ability to build relationships internally with all levels.
  • You have comfort with ambiguity and are flexible in managing multiple, often complex, tasks at once.
