The Investment Management department at Mackenzie Investments is currently accepting applications for the full-time position Junior Equity Trader. The role will be based in Toronto where you will report to the SVP, Head of Trading.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to work within a growing international asset management firm. This role will initially be a trading analytics role with a view for the individual learning to back-up and execute trades for the Equity Trading Desk from day one. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of market knowledge, and the ability to interact with, and succinctly communicate information to the investment team.   

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform investment and trade related reporting, including commission, trade cost analysis, and other reporting as required
  • Perform administrative tasks, as directed by the traders or portfolio managers
  • Support the middle office team with equity trade reconciliation and cash management
  • Develop strong working relationships with back office and custodians to quickly resolve trading discrepancies
  • Assist with the booking of trades for the equity trading desk
  • Learn to work with the equity traders, and be able to independently execute trades when required
  • Act as a back-up trader, and be able to perform primary trading responsibilities, as required
  • Develop strong relationships with sell side trading firms
  • Improve existing spreadsheets, processes and tools used by the trading desk

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, and 2+ years relevant experience either in back office, trading support role or other investment related role
  • Focused and driven, with a desire to learn new skills
  • Strong interest in financial markets, and understanding of equities and asset management
  • Must be organized and have strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Bloomberg and Microsoft Office. Coding in Python, SQL, VBA is an asset.
