Role Summary
The Senior Manager, Technology Risk Management plays a critical role in the First Line of Defense, responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of technology risk management practices across the organization. This role ensures alignment with enterprise risk frameworks, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Reporting to the AVP, IT Risk, the Senior Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen risk governance, enhance risk visibility, and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Risk Oversight
- Lead the identification, assessment, and monitoring of technology risks across technology teams and business units.
- Ensure risk management practices align with enterprise risk frameworks, policies, and regulatory expectations.
- Provide expert guidance on risk mitigation strategies and control enhancements.
- Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring, and communication of emerging technology threats and risks.
Risk Reporting & Governance
- Oversee the development and delivery of comprehensive risk reports and dashboards for senior leadership and governance committees.
- Communicate key risk trends, emerging threats, and control effectiveness using data-driven insights.
- Maintain and evolve Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to support proactive risk management.
Security Metric Development
- Design and implement security metrics and performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of security controls and risk mitigation efforts.
- Collaborate with IT Security and Data Governance teams to ensure metrics are aligned with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to visualize security posture and support continuous improvement.
- Ensure metrics are actionable, relevant, and regularly reviewed for accuracy and impact.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Work closely with IT Security, Data Governance, IT Operations, and other business units to enhance risk transparency.
- Establish strong working relationships with the stakeholders across business units and teams to build trust and act as a trusted advisor. Provide subject matter expertise to advise the stakeholders on control documentation and testing in compliance with policies and standards.
- Act as a key liaison between first-line IT risk functions and executive leadership.
- Facilitate discussions on IT risk trends and issues with risk committees and board-level stakeholders.
- Assist in responding to internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and third-party assessments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, business or related fields.
- 7+ years of experience in technology risk management, cybersecurity, or IT governance, preferably in the financial services industry.
- Strong expertise in risk reporting, data analysis, and executive-level presentations.
- Knowledge of IT Risk frameworks, methodologies and industry standards related to IT and Cyber Risk management, including emerging trends and issues (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, COBIT, CIS Controls).
- Strong understanding of IT governance, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Risk and Control management knowledge and industry experience across Information Technology (IT) domains.
- Experience with Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), risk dashboards, and metrics-driven reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical risks into business-relevant insights.
- Relevant certifications such as CRISC, CISSP, CISM, or CISA are preferred.
