Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking leader to serve as VP, Treasurer, responsible for leading the treasury function and advancing its strategy to meet the future needs of the organization. This role is critical in driving the organization’s capital, liquidity, and funding strategies, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives. The Treasurer will provide strong leadership to a high-performing team, optimize the balance sheet, manage risk, and foster strategic relationships with financial partners.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Treasury Strategy and Leadership:

  • Develop and execute a treasury strategy aligned with the organization’s financial and growth objectives.
  • Manage capital and liquidity planning to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and support business needs.

Funding and Liquidity Management:

  • Oversee funding strategies, including managing banking relationships, capital markets access, and optimizing funding sources. This includes oversight of funding for a growing mortgage business with approximately $7 billion residential mortgages under administration.
  • Oversee robust liquidity management practices, including cash flow forecasting, stress testing, and scenario analysis.

Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory capital and other regulatory requirements (e.g., CIRO, CSA, OSFI).
  • Collaborate with second-line risk management and finance teams to monitor, mitigate and report on risks associated with interest rates, currency fluctuations, capital and liquidity.
  • Develop key risk indicators and ensure risks are managed within the company’s risk appetite.

Banking and Capital Markets Relationships:

  • Cultivate strong relationships with financial institutions to secure funding, manage credit facilities, and access capital markets.
  • Oversee negotiations for bank credit lines, transactional banking and wire payment, short-term investments, and other treasury-related agreements.

Balance Sheet Optimization:

  • Optimize the balance sheet to support profitability, including capital structure analysis, working capital optimization, and allocation of excess capital.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, develop, and mentor the treasury team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Build and manage a high-performing team capable of adapting to the changing needs of the organization.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or related field. MBA, CFA, CPA, or similar designation
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in treasury, finance, or capital markets within a financial services or banking environment. Proven experience in managing liquidity, capital, and funding for a large financial organization. Mortgage securitization and funding experience is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of treasury and risk management systems, capital markets, and regulatory requirements. Proficiency to oversee financial modeling, data analysis, and risk management
  • Leadership and Strategic Skills: Demonstrated leadership ability to build and lead a team, influence executive decision-making, and drive strategic initiatives. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail.
  • As this position is posted in Montréal, Toronto and Winnipeg, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English.
