The Role:

Reporting to the Vice President, Investment Strategy and Private Wealth, the successful applicant will drive our thought leadership efforts with regards to portfolio construction and investment strategy.  The Director, Investment Thought Leadership will possess deep subject-matter knowledge and expertise on foundational investment topics (i.e. strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction, cross asset class views) honed through experience with a sell-side, buy-side, or consultancy role and demonstrated experience communicating their views.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Primary idea generator of topical investment themes or trends that Mackenzie should own in the marketplace through white-papers and/or regular market commentary.
  • Author ‘deep dive’ white papers for internal and external use that focus on foundational approaches to portfolio management including, but not be limited to, strategic and tactical asset allocation, development and use of efficient frontiers, portfolio construction, and the benefits of utilizing alternative assets.
  • Develop and launch periodic thought leadership publications for use in the client domain that provide updates on financial markets and investment management topics.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in product, marketing, and investments in the curation and communication of compelling stories to be shared with either internal or external users.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing a topic and authoring a compelling story for publication under tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate with wholesalers in understanding the needs of advisors with respect to investment thought leadership.
  • Partner effectively with functional partners including marketing and compliance in the creation and dissemination of investment thought leadership.
  • Ability to create PowerPoint presentations with clear messaging, supported by sound analysis.
  • Articulate in communicating with all levels of management.
  • Ability to write and present concisely and persuasively.

 

Additional skills and qualifications:

  • A university degree in a business or finance-related discipline.
  • Combination of CFA, CAIA or MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years relevant experience in the investment industry.
  • 2+ years of experience of relevant experience as a sell-side or buy side research associate or equivalent in the investment management or investment consulting experience.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to share compelling stories.
