    DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

    The IS Services Division provides information technology solutions and support to the Power Financial group of companies:  Investors Group, Mackenzie Financial, Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life. The Data Office oversees the technology management and governance of IGM’s data assets. This includes providing enterprise Data services, advancing & expanding our Data Hubs, overseeing the re-platforming of legacy assets, supporting core data intensive applications and delivering the data component of data intensive projects.

     

    This is a very exciting time at Mackenzie Investments, especially in the Data Office.  We are adopting extensive technological change to thrive in the new and changing Financial Services industry.  We are embracing big data, cloud computing, and high-performance data appliances in a delivery focused Agile environment. 

     

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Systems Analyst maintains a “business perspective” through all phases of the project and works with the entire IS project team to assist in the planning, designing and launching of new solutions in support of our growing business needs.

     

    DUTIES INCLUDE:

    • Liaises with business stakeholders to understand industry trends and business objectives in order to design the solution that will meet their decision support and management reporting needs
    • Elicits requirements from business stakeholders through interviews, workshops, business process analysis, business scenarios, and user stories.
    • Analyzes and conceptualizes the design of the data solution, working with the Systems Architect and Software Developer to achieve the client stakeholder objectives through effective deployment of technology.
    • Analyzing the transactional system data requirements and modeling the data design to match the enterprise data warehouse design.
    • Querying and reviewing large data stores to understand the transactional information and business rules that govern the data. Identifying outlying data patterns and data cleanliness issues for resolution.
    • Working with the data architecture team to understand the design of the data warehouse containers/cubes.
    • Documenting the system specifications for the software development team.
    • Ensuring the quality of the solution by testing the results of the development meets the requirements of the business.

     QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Post secondary degree/diploma in a related discipline (CMA, MBA, Management Information Systems, Commerce, Business Analysis, and Computer Programmer/Analyst).
    • 5+ years experience working with business principles and a broad range of different types of business functions.
    • Strong understanding of IS Methodologies, processes and practices, and experience with data systems analysis and data warehouse design.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills that rely on a structured approach to problem solving.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure.
    • Experience in Financial Services and Wealth Management industries would be considered an asset.
