    The Role

     

    Mackenzie Investments is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Legal Counsel, Derivatives, IGM Financial Inc.  As a valued member of the IGM Financial team, the successful candidate will lead the negotiation of derivatives agreements and other trading documentation, and will monitor and advise on related regulatory developments in Canada and abroad.  

     

    Related responsibilities will include:

    • Collaboration with internal stakeholders to draft and amend internal policies and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Monitoring responsibilities under existing and future trading agreements
    • Liaise with Mackenzie portfolio managers and traders to prioritize onboardings/negotiations
    • Working with external sub-advisors and other strategic partners on derivatives documentation and related issues

    The individual will also work closely with a group of legal professionals and business leaders on a range of securities and general corporate/commercial matters, including the preparation of prospectuses and other continuous disclosure filings, as well as advising on policy and regulatory matters, product development, and other areas relevant to the businesses of the IGM companies

    Candidate Profile

    • 5-8 years of experience as a lawyer at a major law firm, bank or asset manager, including experience with derivatives
    • Solid academic track record
    • Demonstrated superior skill in drafting agreements or public disclosure documents
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
    • Ability to work independently to proactively bring projects to completion 
    • Superior time management skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Mutual fund, institutional investing, securities experience, and/or a strong interest in the investment management industry will be considered assets
